Things To Do

Situated in the historic Village of Arroyo Grande at the gateway to wine country, The Agrarian Hotel is conveniently located close to everything the Central Coast has to offer. Within walking distance to antique shops, acclaimed eateries, and noteworthy wineries, The Agrarian Hotel is also an easy drive to surrounding vineyards and the beach, making it the perfect home base for exploring the area.

While we encourage you to make use of our luxury amenities, when you’re ready to venture out, here are some of our favorite things to do in the area:

Stroll Through the Village

The Village of Arroyo Grande is just steps from The Agrarian Hotel, offering charming boutiques, restaurants, and picturesque spaces in which to explore. Spend the day strolling around, then cross the 171-foot-long swinging bridge (which dates back to 1875), suspended 40 feet above the Arroyo Grande Creek. It’s the only one of its kind in California.

Visit the Roosters

Yes, those cock-a-doodle-doo roosters. Our town’s fowl roam free amongst the local fauna in the heart of Arroyo Grande. Practically local celebrities, these roosters even having their own website. You’ll see them down by the creek, and occasionally crossing the street. Just be careful when driving, as they do have the right of way.

Enjoy Central Coast Fare

We’re blessed to be so close to farms, ranches, and, of course, the Pacific Ocean, making it easy to enjoy the bounty of the Central Coast at numerous locally-driven restaurants. Check out some of our favorite restaurants in our area — you’ll likely want to try them all!

Visit the Monarch Butterfly Preserve

Located half a mile south of Pismo Beach, roughly 3 miles from Arroyo Grande, the Monarch Butterfly Preserve is a Eucalyptus tree-filled grove that welcomes thousands of Monarch butterflies each year. The butterflies flock here each year from late October through February and, as one of the largest butterfly preserves in the nation, it’s certainly a sight to see.

Play Tennis or Pickleball at Soto Sports Complex

Offering 5 lighted tennis courts, 4 pickleball courts, 2 Little League fields and 4 lighted softball fields, there’s something for everyone at Soto Sports Complex. Everyone will enjoy getting in on the fun-filled action.

Head to the Beach

Thanks to Arroyo Grande’s convenient location close to the coast, pristine beaches are just minutes away. Pismo State Beach and Shell Beach are the closest, while the charming coastal community of Avila Beach is just a 10-minute drive north. Grab the beach towels and sunblock and make a day of it, or opt for a leisurely walk on the beach as the sun sets.

Go Wine Tasting

You don’t even need to get in your car to experience quality Central Coast wine, thanks to several noteworthy tasting rooms within a block from the hotel. But when you’re ready to venture a bit further into wine country, there are over a dozen wineries within 15 minutes of the hotel. Head to the up-and-coming region of Edna Valley, known for its acclaimed cool climate varietals like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, or to nearby San Luis Obispo. It’s a wonderful place to be if you enjoy wine.

Tasting Rooms

As wine aficionados ourselves, we take our wine seriously, which is why we’ve compiled a list of our preferred wineries. From crisp Chardonnay to minerally Albariño, sustainably-farmed Pinot Noir to spicy Tempranillo, there’s something for every wine lover here. You really can’t go wrong, so don’t feel limited to this list.

Restaurants

The farm-to-table movement started on the Central Coast, which isn’t surprising given the number of farms, ranches, and artisan makers in our area. Whether you’re looking for fresh seafood, comforting fare, or hyper-local, seasonal offerings, there’s no better place to be. Here are a few great restaurants worth paying a visit to in our area:
